Role Responsibility

20 hours per week, Term Time Only for 39 weeks

The pro rata salary for this role equates to approximately £10,180.85 - £10,863.12

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Public Transport department as a Passenger Transport Inspector on a term-time only basis working an equivalent of 20 hours per week during 39 weeks of term time (780 annualised hours). The Public Transport department is responsible for the provision of transport services across the County; we support the local public bus network, coordinate concessionary fares schemes and contract with local transport operators to provide bespoke transport services for scholars and social care clients.

We require a motivated and flexible individual to attend schools and other establishments in order to monitor the provision of contracted client transport services, identify areas of concern or non-compliance with contractual/regulatory obligations, draft reports and liaise with office-based staff to ensure that any issues are resolved promptly. Our clients attend over 400 different establishments across Kent and beyond, so Inspectors need to be able to attend a range of locations in good time for the start or end of the school day. A liveried vehicle and branded clothing are provided.

You will need to be a literate, numerate and highly organised self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision, although you will always have direct support by telephone and via regular office-based review meetings.  You will need to have a clear understanding of the Local Authority’s obligations and the regulatory framework for passenger transport and, as you will be dealing with the public, transport providers and other agencies whilst undertaking inspections, sometimes in challenging circumstances, you will need first rate interpersonal skills in order to develop positive working relationships and represent the Council positively.

The successful candidate will have the ability to use their initiative to ensure that work is completed on time and to standard within a fast-paced environment.

This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving License – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
