Role Responsibility
Opportunities have arisen for Apprentices to join the Libraries teams across the county in the Libraries, Registrations and Archives Division .A Kent County Council Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to earn a salary and gain a real qualification whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience.
This is a great opportunity to gain a level 2 qualification in Customer Service whilst working for a large, diverse, rapidly changing organisation.
The Libraries, Registration & Archives service is diverse and includes-
- Books and audiobooks, plus DVDs to rent, eBooks and eAudiobooks to download.
- Access to computers and a wide range of online information resources, such as Theory Test Pro to help pass the Driving Test, job searching and for family or local history research.
- Events and activities including, Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions, Children’s Story time, Talk Time and Reading groups.
- Registration of births and deaths in town centre libraries.
- Marriage ceremonies in our Register Offices.
As a library and archives apprentice your work will cover all aspects of work within a library; assisting customers with their enquiries, maintaining the tidiness of the library, organising and promoting events and activities taking place at the library, using ICT systems to book appointments and maintain records.
Starting salary is £159.10 per week, with the opportunity to increase based on performance.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

The Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme provides financial support, or just a simple bursary to help with travel, clothing and equipment for those who might otherwise be unable to take up an apprenticeship opportunity.
To be eligible, applicants need to be:
- Kent residents
- aged between 16 and 24 years old
- already have a provisional offer or endorsement of an apprenticeship or other work based training
- not in employment.
- from a low income household (on a means-tested benefit such as Income Support, Income -based Job Seekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support or Working Tax Credit).
Please note: If you meet one or more of the following criteria you may be expected to contribute to your training costs:
- You are over 24 years old
- You are a Graduate
Due to national funding requirements, if you have a qualification in the same area as this apprenticeship post or at the same or higher level, then you would need to contribute towards training.
