Counter Fraud Technican

Role Responsibility

We are recruiting for a Counter Fraud Technician to provide maternity cover for up to 12 months, to join our award wining, forward-thinking, innovative and ambitious Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Team. This is a great opportunity to advance your experience and knowledge of working within a Counter Fraud environment within the country’s largest Local Authority.

You will play an essential role in supporting the Council’s continuing response to the threat of fraud. Reporting to the Counter Fraud Manager, you will work with key clients in supporting them in mitigating the risk of fraud and error through delivering the Counter Fraud proactive and reactive work programme.

You should be self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a positive approach and willingness to contribute towards our excellent reputation for providing respected work. You will need to use and interrogate multiple databases so you should have good IT and data analytics skills. A flexible approach will be required to enable both the management of competing priorities.   

Educated to “A” Level standard or equivalent including 5 GCSEs (A-C/4 - 9) including Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent), you will need some experience of completing investigations at a civil and criminal standard or working within an audit/compliance field, meeting multiple deadlines and managing your own workload, as well as interpreting and understanding complex guidance and data sets. You will also have an awareness of how Local Government at a County and District/Borough Council Level works and how the wider public sector operate as well as the role of Internal Audit and Counter Fraud.

Kent County Council (KCC) is committed to supporting remote working where possible, however some travel will be required.  There will be a need to travel to our site offices in Maidstone (Kent County Council) at least once a week, some travel around the county will also be required.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For internal KCC applications a secondment would be considered. 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
