Bridge Inspector

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council Highways Transportation and Waste are looking to expand their Structures Assessment Team by recruiting a motivated Bridge Inspector looking to develop their technical skills and expertise. This is an exciting time to join the team and play a major part in shaping its future.

The Structures Assessment Team are part of the Highways Asset Management business unit, which is responsible for approving, inspecting, repairing and maintaining KCC highways. The aim of the Team is to keep KCC highways safe and provide the best highway service to Kent’s residents, visitors and businesses, whilst co-ordinating activities on the highway to minimise disruption to road users and facilitate utility services, whilst ensuring the sustainability and cost effectiveness of any proposals.

The Bridge Inspector role is a KR8 grade, full time role although alternative hours requests will be considered. The role will be based from KCC's Ashford Henwood depot, although the Bridge Inspectors spend the majority of their time lone working at various locations around the County. For any desk based work, KCC is fully committed to hybrid working and we encourage home working when it meets our business needs.

The post holder will provide technical advice and contribute to managing the Assessment Team programme for the year, including:

  • Inspection of Structures Team assets.
  • Identifying defects and raising appropriate works orders for remediation.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation such as Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.
  • Support junior team members to improve their technical skills to increase the intelligent client role across structures.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.
