Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Councils have a critical role to play in the success of the Homes for Ukraine scheme and are uniquely placed to support local communities to offer Ukrainian guests the warmest possible welcome to the UK.

Guests will be able to live and work in the UK for up to three years and access benefits, healthcare, employment, and other support.  As part of this support, we are recruiting experienced Advice and Support workers to work with the Ukrainian refugees to enable integration and independent living.

You will be flexible and customer-oriented with confidence to provide direct advice to Ukrainian refugees being resettled in Kent.

This key role will be the first point of contact with the Council, and you will undertake the initial assessment of both children and adults and ensure the host environment is appropriate as well as assessing ongoing support. You must be able to recognise safeguarding concerns, provide, information, advice, advocacy, and guidance across a range of issues, including (but not limited to) welfare benefits, housing, health and wellbeing services, education, English language provision and employment.

You will be solutions focused with the ability to solve complex problems faced by families and individuals.

Excellent communication and IT skills are essential as the role requires the workers to be able to assist the families, as well as a variety of KCC departments and partner organisations.

You will be required to travel in a timely way to attend planned and unplanned visits and this may involve travelling to remote locations so a full UK driving licence is required and access to a car. Workers will primarily be required to work across specific areas of the County but must have flexibility to work county wide as required. When you are not out in the community you can work from a KCC office or at home.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This role is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

To be shortlisted for interview you will need to demonstrate how you meet each of the essential criteria in the person specification in the Job Description.

Interviews are scheduled to take place week commencing Mid- End of August 2023, although this is subject to change.
