Transport Planner - Cycling

Role Responsibility

The KCC Transportation Department has recently been restructured and this has opened up various exciting opportunities to work within the Road Safety and Active Travel Group. We are looking for an individual that has the knowledge and understanding to make active travel more accessible for all, has excellent communication skills and is a team player.

Key aspects of the role will be working closely with the Active Travel and Transport & Development teams to champion the development, promotion and co-ordination of (walking and) cycling strategies and cycling infrastructure in Kent.  You will work with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to expand, link up and deliver improved safety standards across the county cycle network.  Key outcomes are to get more people cycling more often, improve road safety, support sustainable development, tackle congestion and pollution and contribute to wider active travel and public health objectives. 

The role will be a full-time position on a 37 hours per week contract (Mon-Fri). However, for the right candidate part time hours may be acceptable in a job-sharing arrangement. Candidates would be able to utilise hybrid working with a mixture of working from home and the office.

The office base would be either Invicta House, Ashford or Aylesford KCC Depot which can be agreed with the successful candidate(s).

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
