Systems Accountant (Accountant Level 2)

Role Responsibility

We are looking for a candidate to fill the role of Systems Accountant, (Account Level 2), Financial Analysis & Support Team, Kent County Council. Please see attached job description. The role is to be based at Sessions House Maidstone, but please note that due to Coronavirus, the successful post holder will initially be expected to work from home. The vacancy is for a two year Fixed Term Contract - for internal applicants this would be a two year Secondment opportunity. The vacancy is open to all internal and external applicants.

The Role

Please note that the attached job description is generic across all Level 2 Accountants within the Financial Analysis & Support team, whilst staff have specific areas of direct responsibility. For this role, the two main focuses will be:

  1. Leading the development and maintenance of both the Oracle Business Intelligence & Microsoft Power BI suite of analytical dashboards, currently being used by the Finance function and all services across the authority.
  2. Supporting the Developer & Administrator of the authority’s budget monitoring and forecasting system (Collaborative Planning), ensuring the system is robust and fit for purpose.  

This is a particularly exciting time as the team are introducing a Microsoft Power BI platform into the function’s reporting suite, a key task the post holder will be responsible for delivering, whilst working closely with ICT colleagues.  As such, knowledge of XML (Extensible Markup Language) and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) are key elements of this role.  Previous experience of using XML and/or HTML but not essential.

The Financial Analysis and Support team are responsible for the continuous development of systems used by Finance, ensuring service delivery is as efficient as possible, whilst keeping us at the fore front of design.  You must be able to work with a high level of accuracy, with good communication skills and be self-motivated, you will be required to meet tight deadlines and respond to urgent requests for information. As part of the interview process for this role you may be required to complete additional testing.
