Sustainable Business Programme Manager

Role Responsibility

The Sustainable Business Team are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Sustainable Business Programme Manager to lead the delivery of Low Carbon Kent.

Low Carbon Kent is a network of SMEs across Kent and Medway that, we as a local authority, and in partnership with, work in supporting their move toward a low carbon, resource efficient and resilient way of working and facilitate engagement with public, private and customer sectors. The programme’s vision is to “support European, national and local strategies to strive for a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy and to create a county that is low carbon and resource efficient”. This vision sees the county characterised by:

o  A healthy environment where natural resources are used sustainably;

o  Good environmental performance at the organisational level (business and public sector);

o   A growth in jobs and competitive advantage in the environmental sector.

The Sustainable Business Programme Manager is essential to the delivery of this programme, ensuring effective delivery, monitoring and timely reporting to internal KCC and external partnership bodies.

The role requires the candidate to co-ordinate and work in partnership with internal and external multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the programme, ensuring that systems are in place for progress reporting, output monitoring, financial management, risk and change management across the programme.

The successful candidate would need to chair the various project boards and prepare monitoring reports to MHCLG and other groups as required. There is also a need to work with consultants and private sector SMEs in the preparation of business cases and bids to ensure decisions are secured for all projects within the programme and additional funding streams are unlocked. The role also involves the line management of members of staff responsible for the delivery of the scheme across the network.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
