Are you considering a career in public rights of way and countryside access? Kent County Council is seeking to recruit a Public Rights of Way Officer - Asset Management and Programme Delivery. The role is an ideal opportunity to take the first step to a career in public rights of way and access.

The Public Rights of Way and Access Service are responsible for the recording, protection, maintenance and improvement of Kent’s 6900 km of footpaths, bridleways and byways. The network provides unparalleled access to Kent’s countryside and is vital in supporting the rural economy, tourism and health as well as access to amenities and services.

Based at our West Kent Office at Kings Hill. The successful applicant will identify and deliver programmes of work that maintain and improve the PROW network in line with the Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) priorities. The role also involves collaborative working with partners to deliver programmes of work that fulfil the objectives of externally funded projects that align with the ROWIP.

We are looking for someone who enjoys variety in their work and will learn quickly. You will deliver programmes of work to maintain and improve the public rights of way network. These programmes make a real difference to the quality of life for residents and visitors to Kent. You will be confident and be able to work at many levels. You will be able to represent the service in an authoritative, helpful and confident manner, often in difficult situations.

The post carries a high-volume workload. You will be able to display excellent organisation and communication skills, be able to prioritise and manage your time effectively.

The successful applicant will work outside as well as in, in all weathers, often in remote locations in and around Kent. You must be able to visit multiple locations across the county at short notice.

You will have excellent I.T. skills including the use of Geographical Information Systems.

You will have either experience of working within PROW or civil engineering and be educated to A level standard or higher.
