Public Health Specialist

We are looking to appoint a Public Health Specialist to join our thriving public health team in Kent County Council to lead our new public health programme on tacking gambling harms.
Kent is a large county with lots of complex public health issues. You will have the ability to prioritise competing demands and objectives, coupled with diplomacy and a working knowledge of all areas of public health.
You will need to be an experienced and skilled public health professional with a strong public health knowledge base and awareness of current relevant guidelines and forthcoming legislation.
You will have a keen interest and enthusiasm for supporting the reduction of gambling harms, a proven history in delivering public health projects and programmes, demonstrable partnership working, and the ability to embed strategy, policy and guidance to a high standard. You will have experience of implementing national guidance or policy into practice.
You will be skilled in the use and analysis of data to inform policy and programmes. The role will allow you to showcase your technical expertise in assessing need, reviewing literature and implementing evidence-based solutions to bring about change.
This role will be supported, and line managed by a Consultant in Public Health and be part of a friendly, dynamic and supportive team which promotes professional development.
Purpose of the Job:
- To support the reduction of gambling harm with a particular focus on the coastal and more deprived areas identified.
- To analyse patterns of gambling harm to inform and shape commissioning within Public Health Services and across agencies.
- To lead the delivery of complex, system-wide public health programs using structured project and program management approaches, ensuring alignment with national policy, local need, and strategic priorities.
- Responsible lead for the development and delivery of Public Health programmes and services that are safe, of high quality, cost effective, sustainable, improve the health of the population and reduce health inequalities in Kent including enabling of commissioning and budget program.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of key programme deliverables, including:
- Integrated care and referral pathways
- Workforce training and development programmes
- Needs assessments and intelligence products
- Multi-agency protocols
- Communications and awareness campaigns
- Regulation and licensing controls
- Healthier advertising across local authorities
- Embedding screening tools (e.g. MECC)
- Involvement of communities and lived experience
- Workplace charters
Candidates registered as Public Health practitioners on the UKPHR Register or equivalent preferred.
