Principal Occupational Therapist

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen, due to retirement, for the role of Principal Occupational Therapist for Kent County Council.

Kent is a large county with a diverse population and has a robust Occupational Therapy workforce across all areas, with a recognised Occupational Therapy management structure in place, which delivers a very strength based, person centred focus in their interventions, fulfilling the Kent CC strategy of Making A Difference Every day (MADE) and aligned to our Care Act duties of prevention reduce and delay interventions.

This is a very broad strategic leadership role where you will have the opportunity to lead on the professional development of the Occupational Therapy workforce across Social Care, taking every opportunity to promote the profession and share the value and role it can play. You will be a significant member of the Senior Strategic Management Team, being the voice for OT.

You will be a good communicator and strong leader, taking the strategic and professional lead for the Integrated Equipment Service across Health and Social Care, and acting as senior lead for the interface with the twelve district and borough councils in Kent with negotiations over Disabled Facilities Grants and Better Care Fund.

You will be a strong leader with creative and expansive insight to promoting the profession and Kent both locally and nationally, linking with the Allied Health Professions Council, Royal College of OT, the National Principal OT network, the SE region Principal OT and Strategic Lead network and representing OT at the regional ADASS meetings.

There are plenty of opportunities to develop and broaden this role further according to demand and personal interest and strengths with a strong partnership with the NIHR and research integration initiatives with Housing and Health, and a strong partnership with the local university and training OT apprentices and undergrad OT students.

Kent is a progressive and forward-thinking county which welcomes creative and lateral thinking approaches.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
