Prevent Education Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Prevent team as a Prevent Education Officer (PEO) covering the East and South Kent areas.

The education sector has a vital role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives. This is a high profile role responsible for supporting schools across all key stages and education personnel across Kent and Medway to deliver Prevent activity in order to increase young people’s resilience to terrorism.

Alongside the existing PEO you will identify vulnerabilities and risk, delivery training and capacity building, and build a network of contacts within Kent and Medway to advance Prevent activity, by working with a range of partner agencies including police, Ofsted, Home Office and Department for Education. The postholder will also work with Early Years providers, out of school settings and further education sector where required.

The successful applicant will have experiences working within the education sector, with good political awareness. You will be a confident and engaging communicator and have the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. Prevent is a high profile and sometimes contentious area of work, therefore you must be resilient and able to engage in difficult conversations.

The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. You should note that public transport is rarely a viable option as some rural areas of Kent and Medway often have limited public transport.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and vetting to security clearance (SC) level.

Whilst this advertisement is for a fixed term contract until 31st March 2021.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview on 18th August 2020.
