NDORS Trainers - Self Employed Roles

National Driver Offenders Retraining Scheme (NDORS) courses are governed by UKROED and delivered by Kent County Council (KCC) on behalf of Kent Police. KCC are one of many Course Providers across the UK and delivers several education and training activities that must adhere to national models. 

KCC are looking to recruit Trainers to join our team in Kent and are looking for both practical and theory trainers. If you like to be self- employed and can utilise your skills to deliver courses across Kent, we would love to hear from you.

Trainers to be recruited will be delivering the following courses both in physical and virtual classrooms

  • National Speed Awareness Course - Theory
  • National Motorway Awareness Course - Theory
  • Safe and Considerate Driving Course – Theory and Practical Trainers
  • Rider Intervention and Developing Experience - Theory

Role description/overview

  • These roles contribute to our broader aims for encouraging responsible driver/rider behaviour as a mechanism to reduce road crash casualties. 
  • You must have excellent teaching or coaching skills and be able to deliver courses both physically in venues across Kent as well as online via a digital platform (currently Zoom).
  • You may be an existing NDORS licenced Trainer or be looking for a new role and have the relevant training qualifications.
  • Training will be provided by NDORS Licenced Instructors and regular monitoring provided by our own KCC internal monitors.
  • Deliver NDORS course to clients who have chosen to attend a Diversionary course
  • Trainers will be required to deliver courses across 7 days from 07:30 – 20:00
  • Course rates for each course type will be provided at interview
  • As these are self – employed roles, all Trainers will be required to provide their own IT equipment and have strong internet connectivity.
  • Trainers will be required to provide proof of Professional Indemnity and Liability Insurance.

If you are looking to provide practical training for KCC, there are additional qualifications and requirements including proof of your ADI, MOT, and car Insurance. You will also be required to provide your own vehicle with dual controls. However, there may be a reduced course fee if you hold a practical SCD NDORS licence but do not have access to a vehicle. 

Qualifications Required

If you are interested in becoming a National Driver Offenders Retraining Scheme (NDORS) licenced trainer, then please check you have the correct Trainer qualifications before applying. These can be found by reviewing the attached document ` NDORS Trainer Person Specification`. This now includes an Enhanced DBS for all trainers.

Recruitment Process for Theory Trainers

There will be three stages to the recruitment for the Trainers

  1. Sift of all applications to confirm training qualifications have been met. Any applicant not meeting the required level will be declined.
  2. If you have met or exceeded the training qualifications, you will be asked to complete a second document which has 6 sections/questions relating to Training. If you do not return this by the date and time provided within the instructions given, you will NOT be invited for interview.
  3. The interview will last up to 75 mins (depending on role type applied for). . Those applicants wishing to deliver theory only courses, will also be required to deliver a short presentation whether you hold a current NDORS Licence or not..

Recruitment Process for SCD Practical Trainers

If you are applying to deliver SCD Practical courses, and meet the qualifications shown in the `NDORS Trainer Person Specification` stages 1 and 2 of the process for Theory Trainers still applies. You will then be contacted by the Kent Driver Education Team or their representative to discuss the next stage of the Interview process.
