Highway Operations Assistant Engineer

Role Responsibility

An interesting opportunity has opened for an Assistant Engineer to work within the West Kent Highway Operations Team. The full-time post will be based at Aylesford Highway depot.

The role is multi-faceted providing support to West Kent Highway Managers to deliver specialist projects and general service delivery.

You will be actively involved in the High-Speed Road (HSR) maintenance program. Assisting in the preparation and planning, liaison with other service departments and outside organisations to ensure that the opportunity is utilised as fully as possible, undertaking some site supervision (some at night-time) to ensure quality of work done and assisting in the project management both contractually and financially.

You will be part of our frontline service, dealing with customers both internally and externally who are reporting faults on our highway network with regards to the HSR, bridge height signs and general queries relating to Kents traffic signs and road marking provision and policy. You will also assist the Vehicle Crossing Team to deliver a streamlined and customer focused service.

You will work with the Manager to assist in reviewing Technical Approval requests relating to the new provision and maintenance of the Signs and Lines asset and will able to produce simple traffic sign designs using the Signplot software. (Particularly in relation to bridge height sign maintenance).                

You will be required to assist in co-ordinating a countywide sign asset data collection project, a capital lining refreshment program and assist in improving our knowledge and management of the Signs and Lines asset.

The post holder should have good organisational skills and an eye for detail and some understanding of asset management principles.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
