Fostering Social Work Assistant

Role Responsibility

Contract Length: up to 6 months

Following the Kent Change for Children Programme a vacancy has become available for a fostering social work assistant in the East Kent Fostering Support Team based in Brook House, Whitstable to cover the Canterbury and Dover area.

Kent Fostering have implemented a restructure of the service, to bring all the fostering functions under one management structure.

Kent Fostering has a clear vision for the increased recruitment of foster carers from the local community and to enhance our support offer to Kent Foster Carers to improve our retention, achieve positive outcomes for our children and increase placement stability.

It is therefore an exciting and challenging time to be working in the field of Fostering. In this role you will provide support and training to foster carers, and their families. You will work alongside the fostering social workers to assist with the fostering task and to recruit foster carers across the county.

You will be supporting foster carers to understand the meaning of their child’s behaviour and to consider what might help to both manage the behaviour and sustain the relationship what the foster child. You will also be supporting carers who are offering Staying Put arrangements to young people over 18 years of age whilst also fostering children.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
