Exclusion Intervention Adviser

Role Responsibility

Term Time Only – 40 Weeks Per Year

An exciting and rare opportunity has emerged within the Kent PRU and Attendance Service (KPAS), part of the Education & SEND division of the Children, Young People & Education (CYPE) directorate in Kent County Council, to recruit an Exclusion Intervention Adviser with the drive and motivation to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Kent.

We are looking for a practitioner with strong experience and knowledge of inclusion within the education sector to join the South Kent team in KPAS which includes the districts of Ashford, Dover and Folkestone & Hythe.

Working in partnership with schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and colleagues in the local authority as well as external partners, our aim is to promote an improvement in pupil attendance and a reduction in exclusions across schools, academies, special schools and PRUs.

You will be the advisory professional who provides clarity to school leaders, governing boards, parents and multi-agency partners around the statutory requirements relating to attendance and exclusions set out in guidance published by the Department for Education. You will act as a representative of the local authority at meetings where school governors have a statutory duty to consider pupil exclusions, as well as at independent reviews.

The Exclusion Intervention Adviser requires strong organisation and planning skills, attention to detail and a secure knowledge of the legal framework within which the service operates. Being able to balance support with appropriate professional challenge around guidance and processes in complex situations is essential.

You will be required to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day and on occasion outside of core business hours.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This is a term time only position for 40 weeks per year (39 weeks plus 5 extra days to be worked), therefore the salary will be pro rata.
