Environmental Projects Technical Manager – Adaptation

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

The uniqueness and beauty of Kent and its high quality landscapes, resources and assets are greatly valued by residents, businesses and visitors. Here at Kent County Council, we are understandably proud of what we and our partners are doing to protect and enhance the environment and the many social, physical and economic benefits it provides.

We’re looking for someone with an enthusiastic interest in the environment to join the Sustainable Business and Communities team in an exciting opportunity to work on climate change and adaptation initiatives. The team leads on the implementation of the Kent Environment Strategy, which brings together partners across sectors to support economic growth while protecting and enhancing Kent’s natural and historic environment and supporting communities to be vibrant, healthy and resilient as Kent faces unprecedented growth and change over the coming decades.

We have a vacancy for an Environmental Projects Technical Manager to help us deliver key adaptation priorities and actions identified in the Kent Environment Strategy to build resilience to climate change. In this role, you will oversee and deliver aspects of new and established projects in the adaptation programme such as the Severe Weather Impacts Monitoring System and the Climate Change Risk and Impact Analysis; and EU-funded H20Source2Sea, C5a and STAR2Cs.  You will also help to assess risk and impact of climate change and engage with stakeholders to build short and long term resilience.

The role will provide you opportunity to collaborate with internal officers within environment, emergency resilience and planning departments as well as external partners and customers providing first-level specialist advice, training and general support on issues relating to climate change, adaptation and resilience.

This post would suit someone with knowledge of sustainability or climate change, particularly with experience in research and engagement on such topics. You will need to be able to work independently and manage your own workload. The applicant must have confidence in dealing with the public, and be capable of communicating complex technical matters clearly. You must be computer literate with experience of using spreadsheets and databases.

Interviews will be held on 10, 13 or 15 July.
