Environment Project Officer - Climate Adaptation
Role Responsibility
The uniqueness and beauty of Kent and its high quality landscapes, resources and assets are greatly valued by residents, businesses and visitors. Here at Kent County Council, we are understandably proud of what we and our partners are doing to protect and enhance the environment and the many social, physical and economic benefits it provides.
We’re looking for someone with an enthusiastic interest in the environment to join the Sustainable Business and Communities team in an exciting opportunity to work on climate change and adaptation initiatives. The team leads on the implementation of the Kent Environment Strategy, which brings together partners across different sectors to support economic growth while protecting and enhancing Kent’s natural and historic environment and supporting communities to be vibrant, healthy and resilient as Kent faces unprecedented growth and change over the coming decades.
We have a vacancy for an Environment Project Officer focused on climate change adaptation to help us deliver key priorities and actions identified in the Kent Environment Strategy around environmental change and resilience. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver elements of new and established projects in the Adaptation Team such as the Severe Weather Impacts Monitoring System; the development of the Climate Change Adaptation Programme and Implementation Plan for Kent and Medway; and the EU-funded Cool Towns project. You will also help to assess the risks and impacts of climate change across the county and engage with stakeholders to build short and long term resilience.
The role will provide you opportunity to collaborate with internal officers within environment, emergency resilience and planning departments as well as external partners and customers providing first-level specialist advice, training and general support on issues relating to climate change, adaptation and resilience.
This post would suit someone with knowledge of sustainability or climate change, particularly with experience in research and engagement on such topics. You will need to be able to work independently and manage your own workload. The applicant must have confidence in dealing with the public, and be capable of communicating complex technical matters clearly. You must be computer literate with experience of using spreadsheets and databases.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
Interviews will be held on 27th May 2022
