Democratic Services Officer

Role Responsibility

We are looking for someone with administrative experience to join a team that:

  • Organises and supports all meetings of the council, cabinet, overview and scrutiny committees to ensure they function in accordance with statutory and constitutional requirements
  • Provides an effective and efficient administrative support service for other meetings, decision making processes and independent appeals.

You must have a sound understanding of local government as you prepare agendas, reports, and minutes, organise meetings, respond to correspondence and assist with the maintenance of work plans.

Working as part of a small, friendly team in a challenging and stimulating environment, you will be organised, accurate and able to work under pressure to pre-determined deadlines. You will be confident and tactful in dealing with elected members and senior officers and be able to think logically and plan ahead.  You will also have an excellent standard of written English and be competent using Microsoft Office 360, Microsoft Teams and be able to learn new programmes like Modern.Gov.

We operate a mix of home and office based working, depending on the needs of the service. Equipment will be provided for home-working. You will need to be in Sessions House, Maidstone to clerk Committee meetings as and when required. There may also be occasions when you'll have to travel to external meetings.
