Children's Residential Worker

Role Responsibility

Bluebells in Detling offers overnight short breaks for children in Kent from the age of 5 to 18 years old, who have learning disabilities and/or Autism, and will have some additional support needs. These may include health related needs, behaviours of concern, and help with everyday tasks.

We support children to have fun with their friends and peers, to learn skills, make choices, and to be supported in a safe and nurturing environment, so that they, and their families, can have a break.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who can work as part of a busy team providing a high standard of care for the children and young people that we support. 

To succeed in this role, we are looking for someone who:

  • Can follow care plans whilst keeping them updated
  • Is able to work shift work as part of a rota.
  • Is be able to create factual reports.
  • Is willing to undertake training and put theory to practice.
  • Can undertake personal care for the children/young people.
  • Be proactive in your approach to your own learning.
  • Be able to communicate in an open honest manner
  • Can plan, organise and deliver new opportunities of recreational and social experiences for children and young people.
  •  Has awareness of the Childrens Homes (England) Regulations 2015
  • Has or is willing to complete the Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare.

Interviews will be conducted under the ‘Choosing with Care’ assessment process which includes a pre-interview visit.

The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
