Business Officer / Business Information Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Our Public Transport department provides a huge range of transport services for people across the county. We support the local public transport network, coordinate concessionary fares schemes and provide bespoke transport services through contracts with local transport providers.

To join us as a Business Officer or Business Information Officer, you need to be passionate about supporting the people of Kent and aware of the Council’s role in passenger transport. You should also have the confidence to talk to all kinds of people in a professional way, even in challenging situations. Finally, you need to be organised and self-motivated, as you’ll be operating in a busy environment. Whether you’re working on-site or from home, you’ll have the freedom to manage your own workload.

Your role in our Public Transport team

Our team organises transport for over 12,000 clients and manages around 3,000 individual contracts. Taxis, minibuses, coaches, buses: we ensure that all transport and services meet the Council’s contractual requirements with the help of regulatory partners.

As a Business Officer, you’ll work behind the scenes to keep these complex operations running at their best. Part of our Business team, you’ll help us manage payments to transport providers and ensure the Council’s money is spent correctly. Day to day, you’ll tackle a range of administrative tasks, processing invoices, arranging payments to suppliers and dealing with any issues. You’ll therefore need experience in Finance or Customer Service plus appropriate academic qualifications, such as GCSEs (or equivalent).

If you also have an ATT level 2 qualification (or equivalent), you could join us in the more senior role of Business Information Officer. However, if you’re not qualified to this level, you’ll have access to fully funded training to achieve the AAT level 2 qualification. Whatever your current abilities, we’ll help you build your skills and an exciting long-term career – if you’re keen to learn, we’ll help you get where you want to be.

To be considered, you must be comfortable using Microsoft Office and producing reports to deadlines. We’re also looking for strong communication skills – it’s important that you can work as part of a team and express yourself clearly.

Join us

In return for your skills, you’ll enjoy an excellent work-life balance, access to great rewards via our exclusive schemes and the opportunity to join a range of work-based groups.

We consider people to be our biggest asset, and promote a diverse and inclusive work culture. We’re also progressive and flexible in our approach, with colleagues hybrid working (partly from home and partly in the office). Whatever part you play in our team, we’ll provide you with all the support and training you’ll need to succeed. All we ask is that you’re brave, curious, compassionate, responsible and committed to sharing knowledge so we’re stronger together. Our values are important to us, so they need to be important to you.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 31 May 2023

If you're interested in joining us, why not come along to our open session on Friday 5th May between 10:00 and 14:00.  Talk to some of our friendly team, have a coffee and find out more about what we do.  No need to book, just turn up on the day.
