Purpose of Programme

The Behaviour Team within the Dynamic Support Service is an exciting venture and collaboration between Kent and Medway County Councils and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board, the integrated care system.  The Kent and Medway Integrated Care System is passionate about promoting good mental health and wellbeing for children and young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. We strive to use the expertise and resources within our organisations and through our partnerships to deliver high quality services that are safe and focused on children and young adult’s wellbeing and recovery.

The ambition for the Behaviour Team is to provide Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) assessment and intervention for complex neurodiverse young people with and without a mental health concern. Through the use of collaborative partnership working the service supports complex neurodiverse young people who are experiencing challenges in their behaviours, resulting in significant harm to self, property, or others. And who may be at risk of Tier 4 hospitalisation. In bringing a sensory and behavioural lens to better understand our neurodiverse complex young people and their families, the programme creates a difference to their lives.

The Dynamic Support Service adopts a systems approach and advises professional networks on how to adapt standardised care packages, building the foundations for avoidance of hospital placements, criminality and residential care.

The role is hosted by Kent County Council and delivered across Kent and Medway councils and Integrated Care Boards.

The Behaviour Team is an opportunity to work systemically with children, young adults, and their families, supporting community health, education, and social care teams to support their service delivery. We plan to reduce the risk of admission to specialist mental health hospitals or secure placements and preventing further escalation of risk for those young people experiencing complex behaviour that challenges.
