Archive Engagement Officer

Role Responsibility

The Kent Archives and Local History Service are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and skilled communicator to join our team as the Archive Engagement Officer, helping all Kentish communities and beyond, to engage with our archive collections through creative projects and collaborative external partnership working.

The post is based at the Kent History and Library Centre, with an expectation to travel around Kent when needed.  The Kent History and Library Centre is home to the Kent archives collection of documents, manuscript and printed books, maps and photographs relating to 1300 years of Kent’s history.  Kent Archives and Local History Service is an Accredited Archives Service and has Place of Deposit status for housing public records.

At Kent Archives we are committed to widen our reach and engage with diverse audiences.   The Archive Engagement Officer will work with original historical material from medieval to modern, to research and develop outreach programmes, deliver workshops both onsite and online, facilitate conferences and take the lead on identifying and writing grant applications.  

The successful candidate will develop, create and deliver inclusive and stimulating engagement programmes that encourage historical enquiry, creativity, and critical thinking whilst promoting the exploration and enjoyment of the Archive collections.  They will interpret information to meet specific needs for a range of visitors, schools and universities.

The role requires a qualified archivist or someone with equivalent experience of using archival material and historical sources to deliver high quality learning experiences. They will be an excellent communicator who can interact with people of all ages, needs and backgrounds.
