Youth Justice Service Manager

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council have a rare and exciting opportunity for an exceptional operational Youth Justice Manager to lead our improvement journey to outstanding.  Success will require some change-management and creativity, with the skills to inspire Team Managers to reach their full potential; the creativity to develop and implement a dynamic, rewarding and quality workforce development plan; and the tenacity to achieve consistently high quality assessment, planning and delivery of the service. Not least, you will engage collaboratively with practitioners and managers to ensure their voices are heard and to shape our future developments and strategic thinking.

You will work closely with the Head of Service to understand and drive performance improvement and will have the confidence to report transparently and clearly to the multi-agency partnership Board. You will need to be a first class communicator in all forms, and not afraid of giving and taking challenge. You will have an eagle eye for detail, and be adept at analysing data and producing coherent reports in a timely way.  You must have up to date detailed knowledge of relevant legislation (such as remand management); be experienced in using practice frameworks including trauma-informed approaches and case formulation; and have comprehensive knowledge of national Youth Justice standards.  A demonstrable passion and ambition for quality services for children and their families is an essential requirement.

The role is ambitious but realistic. You will enjoy the flexibility and technological support to be based almost anywhere in Kent, and to work regularly from home. Kent will support you with excellent career development, including opportunities for accreditation.  

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
