West Kent Technical Support Officer

Role Responsibility

An exciting opportunity has opened up to work within the Road Safety and Active Travel (RSAT) Team. We are looking to appoint an organised and proactive technical support officer (TSO's) to work alongside the West Kent Highway Improvement team. You will be representing KCC in the community and will be expected to deliver excellent customer service to the residents of Kent. The role forms part of a cross cutting team to investigate, design and deliver highway improvement schemes particularly combined member grant schemes, parish and community led schemes and small works orders with our term contractor.

Key aspects of the role will be to support engineers and project managers in the team by triaging enquiries, monitoring the teams enquiries dashboards and helping place works notices on site for upcoming consultations and works on the highway. The post holder will be required to help respond to customer enquiries and support other members of the team with delivery of crash remedial and local transport plan (LTP) schemes in Kent.

There is a requirement to present traffic schemes and casualty reduction in a positive light to the public and of course our internal customers and members. The role requires strong communication skills, a high level of professionalism and the ability to work closely with other team members to ensure customer response deadlines are met.

The role will be a full-time position on a 37 hours per week contract (Mon-Fri). However, for the right candidate part time hours may be acceptable. Candidates would be able to utilise hybrid working with a mixture of working from home and the office. The office base would be either the Ashford or Aylesford KCC Depot which can be agreed with the successful candidate(s). Access to your own transport would be advantageous.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
