Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

The water environment faces unprecedented challenges from housing growth, climate change and pollution, these are especially acute in the southeast. Kent County Council is committed to managing these impacts and delivering the best possible outcomes for residents, businesses, and the environment in Kent.

The Flood and Water Management team works with a wide range of partners on these issues, including Water Companies, Environment Agency, Natural England, District and Borough Councils, Central Government, local and national environmental NGOs, farmers, and other water stakeholders. We work with them to promote nature-based solutions and sustainable water use to manage these challenges.

The Flood and Water Management team are currently looking for a Water Resources Manager who will take a leading role in shaping and delivering this work for KCC. You will be responsible for shaping our vision for a sustainable water environment in Kent and helping to implement it. You will identify funding opportunities and build partnerships to deliver water management projects that deliver this vision. You will work closely with our partners and build and improve our relationships across this sector. Your expert opinion will impact on the development of key plans and strategies across the county to ensure that opportunities to manage water effectively are realised.

About You

As you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders and building partnerships with them, we expect you to have good networking and collaborative skills and be good at forming and maintaining relationships with both internal colleagues and external partners. You will apply your knowledge and experience of the water environment and understanding of water resource management to shape our vision for the environment, ensuring that the county is addressing the right priorities. You will apply your project management skills to a range of projects to ensure they are delivered on time and budget and achieve their objectives. You will have a degree in a relevant environmental field and you will be confident dealing with technical details of water management and be capable of communicating technical matters clearly to a non-technical audience.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 16 May 2022.
