Tree Technician

Role Responsibility

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Tree Technician to play a key role within the Highways & Transportation’s Soft Landscape Team.

This role is fundamental in supporting the audit and maintenance of Kent’s 500,000 plus highway trees. Working with a diverse tree demographic this role will allow the post holder to directly influence and shape the future treescape of Kent through our ongoing maintenance programs and urban tree planting schemes.

As a Tree Technician you will provide the necessary support to the Tree Inspectors and help in the delivery of all aspects of highway related tree management to meet service demand.

You will be a proven team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across a wide range of highway teams and have good computer literacy skills. You will be customer focused and have the communication skills necessary to deliver an exceptional customer service.

The role may be based in East or West Kent. However, the ability to travel independently and be flexible enough to work across the entire County will be a pre-requisite. 

The right candidate will have a passion for trees and have a good understanding of the green environment. They will be responsible for maintaining the Councils tree asset safe and improving it for the benefit of the environment and local communities.

The successful candidate will be offered a comprehensive structured training programme which will allow them to become a competent and independent tree technician and a valued member of the team. Following the completion of training there is a clear route to the higher position of Tree Inspector within the arboriculture team for the right candidate. If you are looking for a career in Tree Inspection, then the training and support offered will give you the necessary qualifications to enter this growing area of tree management within a local authority environment.

In addition to the provision of an arboricultural training program there will be an ongoing commitment to provide job related training and supported continuous professional development in arboriculture and related subjects.

The post comes with the advantages of 27 days holiday (increasing to 29 days holiday after 5 years) + public holidays, flexible working hours, hybrid working, an excellent local government pension scheme, sickness provision, childcare voucher scheme, staff discount scheme and support with professional development.

This is a full-time permanent post (37 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
