Trainee Trading Standards Officers 

We are offering an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to follow a career in trading standards and become a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer.  

About the role 

You will join a dynamic and innovative team of professional Trading Standards Officers protecting Kent residents and helping businesses grow and develop in a fair-trading environment 

As a trainee you will be supporting Trading Standards Officers as they carry out their work across a wide range of enforcement activities in areas such as product safety, food standards, animal health, weights and measures, and trademarks, investigating and preparing cases for court.  

In addition, you will be expected to complete the professional qualification for which we offer a full training package, coupled with continuous on the job training from our team of Officerswho will support you to become a fully qualified Trading Standards Professional.

The candidate 

We are looking for individuals educated to A level (or equivalent), possessing a GCSE (or equivalent) in maths and English at grade C. No prior enforcement or regulatory experience is necessary.  

We are based in Ashford, but you will be expected to work partly from home a number of days a week. Your duties mean you will work across Kent and sometimes outside the County, and you may also be required to work outside core hours and occasionally at weekends when necessary. 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
