Support Worker

Role Responsibility

We have an exciting opportunity within Community Services, for Support Workers, working within the East Kent locality, supporting Individuals with a learning and/or physical disability to access and be a part of their local community.

You will be working from various hubs within this locality and will also be expected to work within the community settings, supporting service users to plan and achieve outcome focused sessions. Although your base will be within the Crawford Centre Sheerness you will be expected to travel across the locality to cover where needed.

You will assist in meeting the needs and aspirations of people with learning disability and/or a physical disability by using a person centred approach, providing them with encouragement, support and assistance, promoting their social inclusion and promoting their rights and choices under the supervision and direction of a senior member of staff and within the context of County and Directorate procedures, as well as primary care legislation, to enable individuals to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

Relevant experience of care and support of other individuals (this can include voluntary experience and personal experiences as well as paid work), including within the public, private or voluntary sectors in the care of adults, working with people with learning disabilities. You will need to have an awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities with challenging behaviour, autism, epilepsy, and other disabilities. You may be expected to escort individuals on the service minibus, to access community sessions.

You will be expected to hold a Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or be willing to undertake this training as part of your development, complete a satisfactory induction period which will include completing the Care Certificate, medication workbook and all mandatory training necessary to the role. 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
