Support Worker - Community Service for Adults with a Learning Disability
Role Responsibility
An opportunity has arisen within the Community Service for Adults with a Learning Disability at the Swalecliffe Community Service. For a support worker to assist people to meet their aspirations through a person-centred approach, focusing on the outcomes for the individual. Within this it will be necessary to promote social inclusion, rights and choices, leading to an increase in independence and fulfilled lives. The support provided is required to be through a flexible approach in line with the changing requirements of the people being supported.
You will be supporting people with a learning and physical disability to access activities and participate fully in their local community. Your ability to work alone and as part of a team using your initiative is essential.
A Diploma level 3 or NVQ level 3 in health and Social Care is required or a commitment to work towards. Completion of the Care Certificate is necessary. You will be provided with an induction to the service and work as part of a team with support and information from the Team Co-Ordinator to work within policies and procedures appropriate to the service.
A requirement of the role is also to uphold Kent's value base by demonstrating Openness, inviting contribution and challenge, and being accountable for your actions. Although the work base will be at Swalecliffe Community Service it will be necessary at times to provide support from other services in the locality. Therefore, it will be necessary to travel across a wide geographical area in a flexible and timely manner.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that the post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
