Social Worker

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time experienced Social Worker in the West Kent Disabled Children's Team in West Malling for a fixed term of six months from September 2020. The team has been in place for nearly three years and therefore this is an exciting time to join a growing and dynamic team as we build and consolidate good practice in this area of social work.

You will be involved in assessing the needs of disabled children aged between 0 and 15. You will be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent social work knowledge, skills and values to deliver the highest quality service to disabled children, their families and carers. Experience in Children’s Services would be essential, including child protection.

Our team consists of Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and you will be required to work closely with our colleagues in Disabled Young People's Social Work Teams, a range of teams within the Lifespan Pathway, and other key agencies, such as Health, Education and the voluntary sector.

The team covers a large geographical area with bases in West Malling and Tunbridge Wells and there would be an expectation that you are able to work flexibly across the whole area covered by the team.

As a relatively new service there is an extensive training and development programme in place and you will be provided with support and opportunities to further develop your own knowledge and skills with regular supervision.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Social Work (CQSW, DipSW or equivalent) or equivalent in a related professional qualification, be registered with Social Work England and have a variety of post-qualification experience of working with children and/or adults and their families.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.
