Social Worker

Role Responsibility

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Social Worker with post ASYE experience in the Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley & Swale Disabled Young People's Team in West Kent. The team works a hybrid model with a combination of office based and working from home to meet the needs of the service. The main office base is in Gravesend, with other offices in Sittingbourne. This is an exciting time to join a dynamic team as we build and consolidate good practice in this area of social work.

You will be working with disabled young people aged between 16 and 25 and you will be supporting them in this exciting period of transition to ensure that they are supported in progressing towards their best outcomes. The role within our team will enable you to gain further experience in a range of work, including supporting Children in Need, Children in Care and Child Protection, as well as supporting young people over 18 under the Care Act. This work includes Care Act Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and supporting young people into adulthood.

You will be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent social work knowledge, skills and values to deliver the highest quality service to disabled young people, their families and carers.

Our team consists of Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and you will be required to work closely with our colleagues in Disabled Children's Social Work Teams and other key agencies, such as Health, Education and the voluntary sector.

The team covers a large geographical area with bases in Gravesend and Sittingbourne and there would be an expectation that you are able to work flexibly across the whole area covered by the team.

There is an extensive training and development programme in place, and you will be provided with support and opportunities to further develop your own knowledge and skills with regular supervision.

We offer generous market premium payments (subject to eligibility). You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave allowance and the local government pensions scheme.

You will hold a degree in social work (CQSW, DipSW or equivalent),  be registered with Social Work England and have a variety of post-qualification experience of working with children and/or adults and their families.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.
