Social Worker

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Social Worker in the South Kent Coast and Thanet Disabled Young People’s team in East Kent.  The team has been in place for three years and therefore this is an exciting time to join a growing and dynamic team as we build and consolidate good practice in this area of social work.  The current vacancy is available due to the expansion of the team.

You will be involved in assessing the needs of disabled young people aged between 16 and 25 as they transition into adulthood and planning with them support to build their skills and independence.  You will be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent social work knowledge, skills and values to deliver the highest quality service to disabled young people, their families and carers. Experience in either Children’s or Adult’s Services would be essential, including child protection and/or adult safeguarding.

Our team consists of Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and you will be required to work closely with our colleagues in Children’s Social Work Teams, a range of teams within the Lifespan Pathway, and other key agencies, such as Health, Education and the voluntary sector.

The team covers a large geographical area with bases in Dover, Thanet and Folkestone, either of which could be considered as your contractual base but there would be an expectation that you are able to work flexibly across the whole area covered by the team.

As a relatively new service there is an extensive training and development programme in place and you will be provided with support and opportunities to further develop your own knowledge and skills with regular supervision.

You will hold a degree in social work (CQSW, DipSW), be registered with Social Work England and have a variety of post-qualification experience of working with children and/or adults and their families.

This post is considered by Kent County Council to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.  The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.

Interviews will take place on 19th & 21st August 2020.
