Role Responsibility

Kent County Council are looking for Social Workers to be part of an innovative and developing service, improving the lives of Autistic young people and adults.

With the recent publication of the national strategy for autistic children, young people and adults Kent County Council are at the forefront nationally of shaping what good social care for autism should look like and a new Learning Disability and Autism strategy is being developed, embedding autism into both NHS and social care across Kent. The team are striving to develop a whole life pathway social care offer to Autistic People to include an emphasis on access to education, employment and communities, being led by the people we support.

This is a rare chance to be part of this service and will provide opportunities to develop your skills and your career. You will play a key role in working with colleagues in health, housing, police and other agencies to support people to work with their strengths and meet their needs and aspirations. You will also have a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the health and social care pathway for Autistic people.

You will be a qualified social worker and the team offers a fantastic opportunity to develop for both experienced social workers and those embarking on their assessed and supported year of employment. Experience of working with Autistic people is preferable but not essential as there will be opportunities to develop these skills within the role.

The service is based at Kroner House in Ashford, Kent, but you will be working across a wide geographical area so the ability to travel in a timely manner according to business needs is essential.

This post offers a ‘Golden Hello’ of £2,000 to the successful candidate if appointed from outside of Kent County Council.

A relocation assistance scheme may also be available to applicants who live a significant distance from the stated office base.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
