Social Worker - The Community Forensic Social Work Service

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council are looking for two social workers to be part of an innovative service, improving the lives of individuals on forensic Mental Health Act pathways.

The Community Forensic Social Work Service works alongside Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust to support individuals on forensic pathways in the community instead of in secure hospitals. This can reduce inequalities, improve quality of life, and have a genuine impact on the lives of individuals, instilling hope and realising real change.

This is a rare chance to be part of this service and will provide opportunities to develop your skills and your career. You will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary team delivering the local authority’s statutory duties to support the transition of individuals out of secure hospitals into the community, including acting as a social supervisor where necessary.

You will have experience in mental health, learning disability or autism settings and experience of working with people who have complex and diverse needs and risks.  

You will have successfully completed your assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE), experience of safeguarding practice and of utilising person-centred, strengths and rights-based approaches. You will also be willing to prepare to train as an Approved Mental Health Professional. 

The service is based at the Trevor Gibbens Unit in Maidstone, Kent but you will be working across a wide geographical area so the ability to travel in a timely manner according to business needs is essential.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and a relevant professional qualification (Social Work or Occupational Therapy) as well as up to date registration with the appropriate professional body.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
