Role Responsibility

Social Worker- Countywide - Specialist Fostering Team for Children with Disabilities

The Disabled Children Fostering Team is an established team within Kent Fostering Service based at Kroner House in Ashford.  We are looking to recruit a social worker to our successful and supportive team.

This is an opportunity to join a team who are committed to improving practice and outcomes for children with disabilities (and their families) by maintaining high standards for carers who can meet the needs of children in their care.

You will be a motivated social work practitioner, passionate about fostering and working with children with disabilities, with sound interpersonal skills and proven experience in working collaboratively with the team around a child to achieve the best outcomes for the child, as well as their birth families.

Your work will include supervising a range of foster carers, (caring for children on a full-time basis as well as through Short Breaks), in a supportive, confident and articulate manner.  You will need to show that you are organised, competent in obtaining and sharing relevant information and advice.  You will need to demonstrate analytical skills in respect of your report writing for Fostering Panels and Carer’s Annual Reviews.  You will also be required to demonstrate an ability to understand and interpret the views and feelings of children who may have limited communication skills/abilities.

Your role will include supporting recruitment, training and retention initiatives for foster carers. This will involve occasional evening and weekend work and the ability to travel across the County in a timely and effective manner.

You will be required to have a good understanding of the Fostering Regulations, National Minimum Standards and the Care Planning, Placement and Case Review Regulations. You will also be required to have a good understanding of how the team fits within the wider service provision for children with disabilities.

The role requires you to work across a wide geographical area so the ability to travel in a timely manner according to business needs is essential. You should note that public transport is rarely a viable option as your role will involve you travelling to venues in very rural areas, often with limited public transport.

KCC offers an annual retention market premium payment of £3,000 (pro rata to contractual hours) and car market premium payment of £2000 per annum paid monthly.

(Externally recruited social workers only become eligible to be considered for the market premium payment after completing a satisfactory 6-month probation period.)

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.

This post is considered by Kent County Council to be a customer facing position.  The Council therefore has a statutory duty under part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh Sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the job description/person specification.

Interviews to take place on – 11th November 2021
