Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Secure the future of Kent’s adults with a learning disability.

We are proud of the exceptional level of professionalism of the Social Care teams at Kent County Council. Working with adults who have a learning disability and their support networks, our staff are committed to ensuring every member of our community is safeguarded and supported to achieve their best outcomes, in accordance with the Care Act 2014.  The Community Learning Disability Team is part of the Lifespan Pathway and supports people aged over 26 with a learning disability.

We are unique in Kent in that we already work in an Alliance with our NHS colleagues. This means that we work in integrated teams with Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Learning Disability Nurses, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurses. This gives us the opportunity to intervene and provide care and treatment quickly and effectively to those who need it most.

In your role as a Social Worker in the 26+ Team you will undertake complex case work, for example Mental Capacity (MCA) Assessment, Court of Protection applications, s42 safeguarding enquiries. You will support people to take positive risk whilst aiming for the least restrictive interventions. Working collaboratively with our service providers and stakeholders, and taking a strength-based approach, you will undertake complex assessments, support individuals to set personal goals and outcomes, and review their effectiveness. Putting the person’s wishes at the heart of every decision, you will explore the community and commissioned services that will best meet their eligible needs, working within budget to make the best use of resources

To ensure that we have the right people, we offer support from experienced staff to all candidates at the AYSE stage of their career.  In return, we expect you to have a degree in Social Work and you will be registered with a professional body. You will also be assessed as competent to operate at the New Practitioner or Practitioner level of the Social Care Capability Framework.  With some experience in the field, you will have relevant knowledge of the legislation and County procedures underpinning work with adults with a learning disability and a good grasp of safeguarding practice.

You will receive regular professional supervision, and have the opportunity to critically reflect on your practice. You will be supported to develop your practice and progress your career.  You will be an effective communicator, with the ability to write reports and meet deadlines. Willing to travel across a wide geographical area, you will be a motivated, flexible practitioner with a passion for working with people with a learning disability.
