Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

The Adoption Partnership South East Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) covers the whole of Kent, Bexley and Medway and you will be part of the RAA Family Finding team.

For this role, you will need excellent communication skills and a comprehensive knowledge of attachment theory and the impact of developmental trauma on children. You must also have experience of working within children's social work teams so that you understand about assessment processes, understanding of children’s individual needs, developmental uncertainties, siblings assessment, contact arrangements, child permanence reports, life story work, direct work and preparation of the child for transitions.

As a family finding social worker, it is essential that you are able to work in partnership with children’s social work colleagues, prospective adopters, foster carers and other involved multi-agency partners, to secure timely, and carefully planned adoption placement for children.

Your work will also involve some assessment of potential adopters; this includes assessment work, preparing reports, matching with children and supporting adopters throughout the process until the adoption order is granted.

You will help us make children’s voices heard in planning family finding activities so that we can find the best adoptive family for them. In return, you can expect good quality support from us. You’ll also enjoy a competitive salary and training opportunities to help you achieve your full potential.

We are looking for someone with a degree in Social Work, CQSW, DipSW or equivalent; you will have an understanding of adoption issues, be willing to learn and a commitment to delivering excellent outcomes for children and young people. In addition to your experience of supporting families, report writing and meeting deadlines you must be able to multi-task and have excellent organisational skills, work independently as well as part of a team with a positive performance culture. Above all, you will be child focused.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wide operational area including travelling around the county of Kent and beyond to transport children and their belongings and be available to do so in an emergency.  You should note that public transport is rarely a viable option as your role will involve you transporting people and equipment to venues in very rural areas, often with limited public transport.
