Role Responsibility

We have an exciting opportunity within North Kent Children in Care Service for 2 Social Work Assistants.

Both posts are for a fixed period of 6 months, and we are looking for 1 full time (37 hrs per week) and 1 part time (29 hrs per week) post.

North Kent Children in Care Service have 2 offices based in Swanley and Swale. These roles will be based at The Willows in Swanley and will support the wider service.

The right candidate will be self-motivated and committed to providing support to young people. You should have good communication and IT skills and an understanding of the needs of children, young people and their families.

The focus of the work is to support the statutory role of the Social Worker, which includes direct pieces of work with children and their families and assisting Social Workers in any other identified tasks. You will also be required to supervise family time between children and their families, as well as supporting our Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking children in developing their independence skills.  The right candidate will have a keen interest in working with children and their families and working within some complex situations.

Providing support is essential to our service users so the ability to produce good reports and case notes, collate information and liaise with social workers and other professionals to inform the complex court work is another key element of the role.

You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can develop good working relationships with the families, foster carers and other professionals.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wide operational area and there may be times that you are required to travel across a wide geographical area, in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day. You should note that public transport is not a viable option as some rural areas of Kent often have limited public transport.

Please specify on your application which of the positions you would like to be considered for. If you would like to be considered for both roles, please specify a preference.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
