Social Work Assistant

Role Responsibility

We are looking for self-motivated and committed Social Work Assistant to work in the Canterbury Social Work Teams. Across the services we work with Children in Care, Children who are supported by Child In Need or Child Protection Plans.

The focus of the Social Work Assistant role is to support the statutory role of the social worker. To work with families to help them make positive changes, through the completion of direct intervention, tailored to the families’ individual needs. You will complete direct work with children as well as assisting Social Workers through completion of a variety of tasks. Your role could also include supervision of family time.

You should have good communication and IT skills, the ability to observe and record information effectively and an understanding of the needs of children, young people and their families.  You will receive a high level of good quality supervision and work alongside other team members.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
