Social Work Assistant

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council’s Strengthening Independence Service is recognised for the outstanding support provided by its Practitioners whose care and commitment shines through their work (Ofsted 2022).

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Social Work Assistant in the North Kent Disabled Young People’s Team within the Strengthening Independence Service. The team has been in place for over six years now and this is an exciting time to join a growing and dynamic team as we build and consolidate good practice in this area of social work.

You will be involved in assessing the needs of disabled young people aged between 18 and 25. Our team consists of Social Workers, Senior Practitioners and Social Work Assistants and you will be required to support the role of the Social Workers within the team and also to have an allocated caseload yourself.  You will be required to work closely with our colleagues in the Disabled Children’s Social Work teams and other key agencies such as Health, Education and the voluntary sector.

As a relatively new service there is an extensive training and development programme in place and you will be provided with support and opportunities to further develop your own knowledge and skills with regular supervision.

You will be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deliver the highest quality service to young people with disabilities, their families and carers.  Experience in Adult’s Services would be essential.

Kent County Council offers a hybrid working model with a combination of home and office working. The contractual base is in Orchards MASH, Sittingbourne/Civic Centre, Gravesend. The team covers a large geographical area and there would be an expectation that you are able to work flexibly across the whole area covered by the team.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
