Social Work Assistant KIU
Role Responsibility
We have an exciting opportunity within the Kent Out of Hours Kent Intake Unit (KIU) Team. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, friendly, and supportive Social Work Assistant. This is a part time position. The role is offered on a permanent basis, subject to a 6-month probationary period in line with Kent County Council recruitment policy.
The Kent and Medway Out of Hours Service is expanding to include a Team of permanent workers who will provide a service to new arrivals of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children at the Port of Dover. The KIU team will provide cover for all hours from 9pm each weekday and cover for each weekend. The post holder will work on a rota basis (For this role, approx. 2 shifts per week), which will be worked late evenings/early hours/overnights and weekends. We can discuss at the interview stage on any preference of shift patterns in line with needs of the service supporting children and young people.
You will provide support to Social Workers to ensure children are processed through the KIU smoothly. It is essential to our service that you can update systems in a timely manner, record case notes, collate information, and liaise with social workers and other professionals to inform our intervention/support. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can develop good working relationships with the children, young people, and other professionals. You should have good communication and IT skills.
We are looking for a Social Work Assistant to support the service who is:
• Able to work evenings, overnights, on weekends and Bank Holidays on a rota basis.
• Committed to maintaining high standards.
• Resilient, flexible, adaptable, forward thinking and positive about improving services outside normal working hours.
• Able to work at speed and under pressure.
• Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and is highly competent in and committed to the use of Information Technology including service user case management systems.
• Interested in broadening their knowledge and skill base to incorporate working in an environment that deals with children.
• Looking for a change from the 9–5 routine.
• Able to cope with shift/unsociable hours working.
