Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist

Role Responsibility

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Senior Practitioner Childrens Occupational Therapist (30 hrs per week) in the Disabled Children’s and Young People’s (DCYP) Occupational Therapy Service 0-25 years. This will be located in the Gravesend area covering the North Kent area – Gravesend, Dartford, Swanley, (Swale).

The DCYP OT service in North Kent consists of an OT team manager, a team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants. The Disabled Children’s Service DCYP Lifespan pathway is made up of teams of Social Workers and Occupational Therapists. Together we work closely to facilitate care packages, short break and fostering placements, and co-operating with Children in Need and Safeguarding Children Plans.

For this role your duties will be to supervise OT staff and manage duty, case allocations for the area and supporting the OT manager on complaint responses.

You will also have your own caseload providing assessment and advice and equipment / adaptations for disabled children and their families within their own homes. You will also be providing support and advice to carers, other professionals, and partner organisations. A significant part of our role is to assess for needs in accordance with Disability Facilities Grant legislation.

You need to be a qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and have extensive experience of working in Social Services.  You should be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the legislation and policies that underpin the provision of services to disabled children and their carers. You should have competent clinical assessment and reasoning skills and effective written and verbal communication; you should be able to plan, organise and evaluate your workload; you need to work well in a team with Social Workers, other professionals, and outside agencies.  You should be self motivated and able to work independently.

You will receive day to day support and supervision from the OT team manager. Training opportunities E-learning and courses are also available from the wider Kent County Council (KCC) Organisation and requests for external courses can be made depending on service needs.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and a relevant professional qualification (Occupational Therapy) as well as up to date registration with the appropriate professional body (HCPC).

Pay range is: ​£41,216 -£47,199 pro rata.  Career progression is achieved through annual evaluation KCC total contribution pay scheme. Appointments will be made in accordance with skills and experience of the successful candidates. Candidates need to be able to travel across the geographical area in a timely manner.
