Senior Highway Safety Inspector (West Kent)

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council (KCC) maintains 8,700km (5,400 miles) of highway network and associated “assets”.

Our roads, footways, street lights, street furniture, traffic signals, gullies and drains, trees, grass verges, signs, road markings, bridges and other structures are all publicly maintainable highway assets. These assets help to ensure that journeys around and through the county are safe and reliable.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join Kent’s Highway Inspections Team. The Highway Inspections team is responsible for reliably and effectively inspecting Kent’s Highways to keep them safe for those who use them, importantly this is a duty required by law and for which Kent County Council is held accountable.  This is a permanent position at grade KR9 (£30,034 to £34,180). You will be supported to work flexibly from home and your primary base at the Aylesford Highway Depot. In addition, you will be required to visit sites, carry out audits/quality assurance and assist with Highway Inspections in west Kent when required.

The successful candidate will be looking after the Highway Inspector’s in the west of the county who are based at three depots: Aylesford, Haysden and Swanley. You will be required to provide cover when needed and act as the first escalation point for any issues. Building up excellent working relationships with all associated KCC Highway Teams as well as our main Contractor.

It is essential that you have the ability to prioritise your own workload, work to tight deadlines, be methodical in your approach, use initiative and operate with minimum supervision. You will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the team and will be involved in short and long-term projects helping to find initiatives.
