Scientific Officer - Maternity Cover

Role Responsibility

Temporary Up to 1 Year maternity cover.

Kent Scientific Services is recruiting a Scientific Officer to work in the Toxicology Section of its Analytical laboratory at Kings Hill, West Malling in Kent. 

The post involves analysing a variety of samples in support of, and under the direction of the Senior Coroners in Kent to help establish cause of death in appropriate cases.

The successful candidate will undertake laboratory tasks as directed. You will manage your daily workload to complete your tasks efficiently and to the required standard. You will use your skills and judgement to problem solve, undertake non-routine activities and guide other members of staff. Support and supervision is available as required. You will have a good knowledge of the equipment used which will enable you to maximise its output, trouble shoot and carry out routine service tasks.

An appropriate, sensitive and mature attitude to this type of work is essential.

Applications are invited from scientists qualified to HND or degree level in chemistry or another scientific discipline which includes a significant element of chemistry..

Starting salary will be dependent on qualification and experience. 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
