School Crossing Patrol Instructor
Role Responsibility
We have a very rewarding opportunity for a community based, road safety focussed, professional to join the Safer Active Travel Team as a School Crossing Patrol Instructor. This is a permanent term time, part-time role with good flexibility.
You will be responsible for training and monitoring School Crossing Patrol (SCP) staff. This will involve communicating with patrols and schools; working on the roadside to provide initial training on site; regular monitoring visits of patrols; assessing risk; providing support and troubleshooting for patrols as necessary; assisting with completing DBS checks; and completing accurate, comprehensive reports. This role plays an important part in ensuring SCP staff are working effectively and safely, helping to contribute to road casualty reduction under Kent’s Vision Zero Strategy.
This road safety role requires you to have knowledge of the highway environment; good observational and listening skills; be self-motivated, well organised and an ability to work alone confidently and safely. Therefore, we require our instructors to have excellent communication skills and confidence in giving feedback, with the ability to take responsibility when required.
Although predominantly working within the west Thanet, Canterbury, Swale, and parts of Tonbridge and Malling Boroughs/Districts, the ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. The role requires visiting schools both within your designated area, to assist colleagues across Kent and attend training events as necessary. We work flexibly from home with limited time spent in offices as the role is very much with ensuring our SCP’s remain safe.
The role is part time working for 18.5hrs per week for 38 term-time weeks; salary will be approximately £8,610/year for this position (full-time equivalent would be £20,595/year). The days and hours worked are flexible, but you must be able to be present at schools across your area and further afield occasionally when required for the start and end of the school day (varying between 8am and 5pm).
This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and completion of an Occupational Health assessment.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
Interviews will be held in December 2022.
