School Crossing Patrol Instructor

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

We have a very rewarding opportunity for a community based, road safety focussed professional to join the Safer Mobility Team as a School Crossing Patrol Instructor. This is a permanent term time, part time role with good flexibility.

You will be responsible for training and monitoring School Crossing Patrol (SCP) staff. This will involve communicating with patrols and schools; working on the roadside to provide initial training on site; assessing risk; providing support and troubleshooting for patrols as necessary; and completing accurate and comprehensive reports. This role plays an important part in ensuring SCP staff are working effectively and safely, helping to contribute to casualty reduction in Kent.

This road safety role requires you to have knowledge of the highway environment; good observational and listening skills; be self-motivated, well organised and an ability to work alone confidently and safely. Therefore, we require our instructors to have excellent communication skills and confidence in giving feedback, with the ability to take responsibility when required.

Although predominantly working within the Thanet and Dover Districts and working from home, the ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. The role requires visiting schools both within your designated area, to assist colleagues across Kent and attend training events as necessary.

The role is part time working for 18.5 hours per week for 38 term-time weeks; salary will be approximately £8,321 for this position. The days and hours worked are flexible, but you must be able to be present at schools across your area and further afield occasionally when required for the start and end of the school day (varying between 8am and 5pm).

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and completion of an Occupational Health assessment.

Interviews will be held online in late June 2021.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
