Scheme Engineer

Role Responsibility

Kent County Council is looking for one or more Scheme Engineers to work as part of a cross cutting team to investigate, design and deliver highway improvement schemes particularly Combined Member Grant Schemes, Parish and Community led schemes and small works orders. The role is based within the Schemes Planning & Delivery Team, based at our Ashford depot.

A key aspect of the role will be to support the triage and decision making for Schemes enquiries and ensure efficient dialogue and resolution of works requests. 

You will be responsible for delivering small highway improvements in liaison with parishes and members which could include but is not limited to: dropped kerbs, new warning signs, carriageway markings and minor traffic calming schemes. You will also commission traffic count data commissions and manage customer requests for changes to the highway.

As a Scheme Engineer you will play a key role delivering safety critical and other programmed highways schemes. This role is fundamental in supporting the personal injury casualty reduction aims of the team.

The role of Schemes Engineer covers a variety of tasks centred around highways alterations and localised improvements. You will need an interest in transportation and ability to apply practical solutions to the KCC highway network.

 

You will need to be an excellent team player and be able to establish good working relationships with a variety of teams and stakeholders throughout the Highways, Transportation and Waste Directorate, working as one team to deliver great customer service.  You will work within a team of other experienced highway design project managers giving you good opportunities to learn from some of the most experienced road safety and traffic engineering staff in the industry.

 

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.
