Role Responsibility

We are recruiting to our team of SEN Inclusion Advisers (SEN IA) who work as a countywide team. We have several full-time permanent roles as well as a temporary maternity cover role.

We are a dynamic team who are required to be responsive to the changing SEND landscape within a large and busy Local Authority SEND and Education Team.

As a countywide team we provide support throughout Kent and on occasions in other Local Authority schools that border Kent (Surrey, Sussex, Bexley, Bromley, and Medway) where we have Kent children with SEND.

The SEN IA are part of the SEN Support and Inclusion Team for schools and post 16. Our purpose is to ensure that children and young people with SEND will be able to attend their local mainstream school/college wherever possible and for the majority of children, without the need for an Education Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

We work collaboratively with local teams within KCC and others including Early Years teams, Specialist Teaching and Learning Service (STLS) PRU Inclusion and attendance Service (KPAS) Kent Educational Psychology Service (KEPS) as well as our SEND Assessment, Placement and Tribunal as EHCP Casework teams.

We provide support to schools to identify children and young people with SEND early and ensure that they have the right support at the right time and that they successfully transition between phases in their education.

Our role also includes support to develop whole school inclusion, embedding mainstream core standards and provision planning for children and young people with SEND.

The SEN Support and Inclusion team sit within the Professional Resource Group as part of the Locality Based working arrangements and the newly established Communities of Schools in Kent. You will have an opportunity to contribute in an advisory and supportive role to the development of Inclusion in a Community of Schools.

You will need to have Qualified Teacher Status, the successful completion National Award for SEN Coordination or equivalent or another relevant Post Graduate qualification in SEN.

You will be able to demonstrate considerable experience of working within a number of schools strategically and successfully developing their whole school SEND provision.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.
