Road and Footway Asset Engineer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Role Responsibility

With an increase to our capital budgets in recent times the Road and Footway Asset Team has found it necessary to introduce an additional Road and Footway Asset Engineer to the team.

Kent County Council (KCC) maintains 8,700km (5,400 miles) of highway network and associated “assets”, and we use both asset management techniques, along with local needs criteria to develop a forward works plan of maintenance schemes.

The role of the Road and Footway Asset Engineer is to design, co-ordinate, supervise and deliver asset renewal maintenance schemes, but may also be required to assist in delivery of asset protection programmes of work.

Whilst this engineer role will predominantly be in the footway asset team, there may be occasions that you would be required to assist with our carriageway works programmes also. You will also be expected to lead on significant road and footway asset failures when they occur

This key post plays a vital role in assisting the team to deliver several hundred road and footway asset management schemes and associated works each year.  Applicants should be able to demonstrate evidence of experience of asset management, highway/pavement engineering and maintenance including a good understanding of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.  However, it is equally important that you have excellent people, communication, and customer service skills, together with a ‘can do’ approach.

For the role to be a success it will be necessary to be able to work well in a team, forming a good working relationship with all our engineers, our clerk of works and the Team Leader to keep open the critical two-way communication and regular contact that will ensure works are carried out to the expected quality, to the correct specification and that works are carried out in the safest manner.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
